Hot Tub Safety

OUR BLOG

What better way to wind down after a busy day than relaxing in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub? Your hot tub provides an opportunity to spend time with family, entertain guests, or simply relax. No matter what you do in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub it is very important that you do so safely. Ensuring the safety of everybody inside and outside of the hot tub is crucial.

KIDS IN THE HOT TUB

Everybody loves a nice soak in the Jacuzzi® Hot Tub, including children. One way to enforce safety is by having standard hot tub rules and ensuring that everybody is aware of what they are. Rules could include:

  • No running
  • No splashing
  • No jumping/diving
  • No yelling

Discussing these rules and having them clearly visible to anyone in the hot tub area is an effective way to enforce safety. When you are discussing the rules it is important to communicate how well your family and/or guests can swim. Always observe the swimming techniques of those in the water. Alert adult supervision is essential to keeping children safe around the hot tub. You should always have at least one adult watching over the children with no distractions, such as barbequing or outdoor maintenance.

Having a designated area for clothing, personal belongings and towels is an effective way of keeping your area organized and hazards off of the ground. Check with a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub sales representative about the maximum load for your hot tub. Having too many people inside at once could quickly become a safety hazard.

KEEPING YOUR HOT TUB CLEAN

To ensure the health and safety of anyone inside your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub it is crucial to keep it clean. A great way to keep track of your sanitation routine is by using a calendar or agenda. You can mark specific dates for certain cleaning routines for months to come, making it difficult for you or your family members to forget. Unsanitary hot tubs and spa water could lead to:

  • Irritated skin
  • Rashes
  • Bacterial infections

The cleaning routine for your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub should include draining the spa water three to four times a year and regular chemical treatments, flushing lines, cleaning hot tub surface and cover, removing and cleaning filters, and checking for problem areas. Cleaning routines can vary depending on the model and make of your hot tub. Check with your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub sales representative for the cleaning needs of your spa and possible product recommendations.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Sometimes accidents happen even when you take all the necessary safety precautions. In case of an accident or emergency, you should always be prepared. An effective way to prepare is by stocking your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub area with safety equipment and having a plan in case of emergency. Lifesaving equipment should be visible and readily available, including:

  • Life jackets
  • Pole
  • Rope
  • Floatation devices
  • Emergency numbers
  • First aid kit

You and your family may also benefit from swimming lessons and/or first aid training.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT

Make safety a priority during the planning process of your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub installation. Make sure your surrounding fences are sturdy and gates are always closed and locked properly. Having a designated area for shoes, towels and other personal belongings keeps safety hazards dry and off the ground. If you plan to use your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub at night, consider installing additional outdoor lighting. This way you and your guests can accurately navigate into the spa and begin to relax!

Making your backyard oasis a safe place to enjoy your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is possible with the right amount of planning.
