Top 5 Swim Spa Exercises

OUR BLOG

swim spa (or all season pool) is the perfect combination of a hot tub and pool. You can experience the enjoyment and healing of a hot tub, while still receiving the fitness features of a pool. The swim spa models for sale at Wellness Shop are fully-equipped with modern technology and the latest features available in the industry. You can relax and rejuvenate, while still maintaining your health and enhancing your overall fitness. You should always consult a physician before starting any new fitness regimen.

If you aren’t sure where to begin with your swim spa fitness program, low-intensity exercises are a good start. Regular exercise can help to improve your health, strengthen your body, and help improve weight maintenance. These five swim spa exercises can be a great place to start!

1.    WATER-BASED CARDIOVASCULAR EXERCISE

First thing’s first, you should always allow your body to warm up before you begin a workout. Once you slip into the heat of the jet-infused water, give your body 5-10 minutes to relax and loosen up. The jets and currents will help apply pressure to your tight muscles and help relieve tension. You can take this time to even do some light movements and stretches.

Once your body is warmed up, it’s time to begin your workout. Some light cardiovascular activity is a great starting point. Try walking, running, marching or swimming against the man-made current of your swim spa. For an even lower-intensity workout, try walking or marching in place without a current. To maximize your warm-up and/or workout, involve the use of resistance bands or weights.

2.    CALF RAISES

If you’re looking to strengthen your leg muscles, calf raises might be for you. Start by standing with your feet a shoulder-width apart, with one hand on the shell of your swim spa for balance. Simply go up on your tippy-toes, hold for 1-2 seconds, then return to a regular standing position. Depending on your fitness level, you should aim to complete three sets of 15-30 repetitions. Looking for a challenge? Try only using one foot at a time, while still using the shell for balance.

3.    TORSO TWISTS

Torso twists can be a beneficial abdominal water-based exercise. Take a seat in your swim spa, with your feet firmly on the ground. At a pace that is comfortable for you, turn your upper body to face the left and then switch to the right. For optimal mobility and effectiveness, keep your arms close to your upper body with your elbows at your sides and fists to your chest. Complete 3 sets of 20-30 repetitions, depending on your pace and comfortability.

For a more advanced exercise, try reverse torso crunches. Move to a non-seated area of your swim spa, with lots of free space, place your back against the wall and completely extend your arms along the top of the shell, with a firm and steady grip. Lift your legs and pull your knees in towards your stomach as far as you comfortably can. Simply twist the lower half of your body from left to right at a pace that works best for you, placing your feet on the ground or taking a seat if needed.

4.    LEG EXTENSIONS

You can strengthen both your abdominals and legs with routine leg extensions. Start by sitting in a comfortable seated position with your feet firmly placed on the ground. While balancing yourself with your hands on a dry part of the shell, lift both legs to a 180° angle (or as close as you can get) and hold for 1-2 seconds. Lower your legs back to the ground, and repeat. You should aim to complete three sets of 10-15 repetitions per workout.

5.    ARM LIFTS

Maximize your arm workouts with the help of resistance bands or weights. While in a standing position with your arms down by your sides, lift them as high as you comfortably can and hold for a moment. Slowly lower them back down, while still securely holding the handles of your resistance band or weights. Continue this movement for three sets of 10-12 repetitions.
