What Foundation is Best for My Hot Tub?

OUR BLOG

Did you know that a hot tub can weigh upwards of 5,000 pounds when the foundation is filled with water?

For this reason, along with your safety, quality of the installation and longevity of the hot tub is why it’s so important to have the proper foundation for a spa. If you’re thinking of installing a hot tub in your home or backyard, it’s crucial that you first lay down the proper foundation to support it. In this article, we’re going to walk you through the top three choices for the hot tub foundation.

CONCRETE

Concrete makes an excellent choice for the foundation of any hot tub. It’s durable, sturdy and long-lasting, meaning that you can soak the night away without a second thought about the safety and functionality of your hot tub installation.

If you plan to install your hot tub on an existing area of concrete bricks, take some time to ensure that the area is level and in an overall good condition. If you’re building the area from scratch, we may recommend a custom-poured concrete slab. This will increase the durability even further and allow you to customize the area to the dimensions of your hot tub.

DECK

Do you have some free space on your deck? Are you looking to give your deck an entirely new purpose? If so, it might make the perfect place to install your spa. Especially since the area is already level and solid. We do recommend having an expert inspect your deck to ensure that it would be able to support the 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of a modern hot tub when filled with water. You will also have to ensure that the proper electrical hook-ups are in place and accessible to your spa.

If you would prefer an in-ground style hot tub installation within the means of your deck, which many hot tub owners do, this will call for additional construction and inspections. Most homeowners find it best to install a hot tub on a concrete slab and then build the deck around it. Again, it will all depend on your home, backyard, and plans for the installation.

PREFABRICATED PAD

If you would like to install your hot tub in the backyard but do not want to pour concrete, a prefabricated pad may be the best solution for you. All you have to do is remove the grass and topsoil from the area where you plan to install the hot tub, lay the pad down properly and then install the hot tub on top of the pad. The experts from your local Wellness Shop location would be more than happy to assist you in this custom and unique installation, along with finding the right spa pad for your hot tub.
